When most people think of a website you can edit yourself, they think of WordPress. It's everywhere, and for good reason. But it isn't the only option — and for a lot of the sites we build, it isn't the best one. Increasingly, we reach for Statamic.
If you've never heard of it, here's what it is and why it might be right for your business — without the technical jargon.
So What Is Statamic?
Statamic is a content management system — software that lets you edit your website yourself without touching code. In that sense it does the same core job as WordPress: you log in, change your text and images, add pages, and your site updates.
The difference is in how it's built. Statamic is modern, built on solid, professional foundations, and designed from the ground up to be fast, secure and pleasant to manage. Where WordPress carries two decades of history (and the baggage that comes with it), Statamic started fresh with the benefit of hindsight.
Why We Like It for Clients
It's genuinely nice to manage. This is the one clients notice first. The editing experience is clean and logical. Fields are labelled clearly, content is organised the way your business actually thinks about it, and there's far less clutter than a typical WordPress dashboard. People who were nervous about editing their old site tend to relax quickly with Statamic.
It's fast. Statamic sites are quick out of the box, which is good for visitors and good for Google. Speed is a ranking factor, and a fast site simply feels more professional. (More on what Google measures in our Core Web Vitals guide.)
It's secure. A huge proportion of website hacks target WordPress, precisely because it's so common and so often left un-updated, with plugins piled on top. Statamic has a much smaller attack surface and far fewer moving parts to go wrong. For a business that just wants its site to be reliable and safe, that peace of mind is worth a lot.
There's less to maintain. Fewer plugins and fewer moving parts means fewer things to update, break or conflict. Sites tend to stay stable for longer with less fuss.
Is It Right for Everyone?
No — and we'd never pretend otherwise. WordPress is still the right call for plenty of projects, particularly where you need a specific plugin from its enormous ecosystem, or where a shop is best served by WooCommerce. We build plenty of WordPress sites and we're happy to.
Statamic tends to shine for content-led business websites: sites where you want something fast, secure and easy to manage, without the plugin sprawl. If that sounds like what you're after, it's well worth considering. We go deeper into matching the platform to the project in our guide on choosing the right CMS.
The Honest Summary
Statamic isn't a magic bullet, and it isn't right for every site. But for a lot of UK businesses who want a professional website that's quick, safe and a pleasure to update — rather than a chore they avoid — it's an excellent fit. It's a big part of why we offer it as a core service.
