Domain Name Terms

Introduction

These terms apply to all domain name registration, renewal, transfer, and management services provided by MWN Digital Limited.

By purchasing or managing a domain name through us, you agree to these terms in addition to our Terms & Conditions.

References to "we", "us" or "our" mean MWN Digital Limited. References to "you" or "the registrant" mean the person or organisation in whose name the domain is registered.

How domain registration works

We act as an intermediary between you and the domain registrar responsible for registering and maintaining your domain. Domain registrations are currently processed through 20i (20i.com), an ICANN-accredited registrar and Nominet registrar for UK domains.

We may change the registrar through which domains are managed at any time, including moving to a direct registrar relationship. Where a change affects your domain, we will notify you in advance and ensure continuity of service with no interruption to your domain's operation.

Regardless of the registrar used, the ultimate owner of the domain is you — the registrant. MWN Digital Limited does not claim ownership of any domain registered on your behalf.

Registrant responsibilities

As the domain registrant, you are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and complete registration details at the time of registration and keeping those details up to date
  • Ensuring renewal invoices are paid promptly before the domain expiry date
  • Complying with the terms and conditions of the relevant registry (Nominet for .uk domains; ICANN and the relevant registry for all other extensions)
  • Ensuring your domain is not used for any purpose that violates applicable law or our Web Hosting Acceptable Use Policy

Registration and pricing

Domain registration fees vary by extension (.co.uk, .com, .uk, and others). Current prices are published on our domain names page and are shown at the point of registration.

Registration fees are charged for the registration period selected (typically one or two years). Fees are due in advance and are non-refundable once the domain has been registered with the registry.

Renewals

Domain names must be renewed before their expiry date to remain active. We will send renewal reminders by email in advance of your domain's expiry date.

It is your responsibility to ensure renewal invoices are paid promptly. We cannot guarantee the availability of a domain name after it has expired, and we accept no liability for the loss of a domain where a renewal invoice has not been settled in time.

Where a domain lapses due to non-payment, it may enter a redemption period during which recovery may be possible but at a significantly higher cost. After the redemption period, the domain is released for public registration and may be acquired by a third party.

Domain transfers

Transferring a domain to us

If you wish to transfer an existing domain to us for management, we will guide you through the process. Transfers require an authorisation code (also called an EPP or auth code) from your current registrar. The transfer process typically takes 5–7 days for generic TLDs (.com, .net, etc.) and is usually near-instant for .uk domains.

Transferring a domain away from us

You may request to transfer your domain away from us at any time. We will provide the necessary authorisation code upon request, provided there are no outstanding invoices on your account. Transfers are typically actioned within 2 business days of a valid request.

We do not charge a transfer-out fee.

DNS management

Where we manage your domain's DNS records, we will make reasonable efforts to apply any requested changes promptly. DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally, though in practice most changes take effect within a few hours.

You are responsible for providing accurate DNS information. We are not liable for any disruption arising from incorrect DNS configuration requested by you.

Domain expiry and termination

If you choose to close your account with us or cancel your domain management service, we will transfer management of the domain to you or a registrar of your choice, provided all outstanding invoices have been settled.

We will not allow a domain to expire without first making reasonable attempts to contact you and give you the opportunity to renew or transfer it. However, we accept no liability for domain expiry where our renewal communications have gone unanswered.

Registrar and registry terms

In addition to these terms, your domain registration is subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant registry:

  • .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk and related extensions: Nominet UK — nominet.uk/registrants/managing-domain/registrant-terms
  • .com, .net, .org and other gTLDs: ICANN and the relevant registry operator for the extension

Where 20i is the registrar of record, the 20i registrar terms also apply: 20i.com/terms

In the event of any conflict between these terms and the applicable registry or registrar terms, the registry or registrar terms take precedence to the extent required by their policies.

Domain disputes

Domain name disputes are governed by the policies of the relevant registry:

  • UK domain disputes (.uk, .co.uk etc.): Nominet Dispute Resolution Service (DRS) — nominet.uk/disputes
  • Generic TLD disputes (.com, .net, .org etc.): ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP)

We will cooperate fully with any legitimate dispute resolution process but are not a party to disputes between registrants and third-party complainants.

WHOIS and registrant data

Registry WHOIS data requirements vary by extension. For most UK domains, registrant data is held by Nominet and handled in accordance with their data protection policy. For generic TLDs, registrant data is held by the relevant registry.

We collect and process your registration details in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, including in response to changes in registrar arrangements or registry policy. The current version will always be available at mwn-digital.uk/domain-name-terms.
